Catherine's Story

Life OK, life since High School. Gave up drugs. Went to College majoring in Modern Dance. Did not fit in - too straight laced there and I did not relate to the beer blasts. All the misfits banded together and put on an avant garde theatre piece. I played the part of "air." Then I dropped out and studied dance in all the studios I liked around Manhattan. I moved back home to save rent money and paid for my classes by modeling for art classes. Was asked to join a dance company and performed in many loft spaces, youth groups, and downtown theatre spaces. My left knee was giving out so I had to give up dance and began teaching Pilates at the Carola Trier Studio in NYC. We had many celebrity clients doing rehabilitation with doctor's instructions and body conditioning. While some of my fellow teachers were studying to be physical therapists I began studying acting. It was at that point that I met my future husband while he was in a play on Broadway called "Knockout!" I waitressed for many years and taught aerobics to work my way through acting classes and small theatre productions. We moved to LA when Ed got cast in "Married with Children." TV work but then that dried up for me when politically I found I was not white enough, not black enough, and not Latina enough for any parts at all. Did that faze me?! Yes, quite a bit, but then I went into a program to learn to be a Diversity Management Trainer or anti-racism training. It was very therapeutic for me and I did a bit of work in the field with non-profit organizations. I went back to college with a concentration in psychology and got my BA. I also studied and worked for a while doing massage, acupressure, and Bodymind Integration Therapy. I created and ran two programs at a women's homeless shelter in South Central LA for many years. At some point Ed and I separated. Let's face it, there were too many damn Playboy bunnies in that show! We never got divorced though. When I turned 40 I told Ed that I wanted to have a child. He went wild. But I twisted his arm to get his sperm. (I know that's not the normal way!) We now have two daughters, age 10 and 3. I have been very active in my children's school and have gotten my teaching credential in Waldorf education. I am also an Agape Practitioner which entails providing spiritual counseling and prayer.
